Victoria Reads 2020

Victoria Reads is inspired both by CBC’s Canada Reads and Vic High Reads which was first held at Victoria High School in 2018. These events help us discover new stories and share our love for great books.

Have your say! What book do you think is the one that we should all be reading this year?

The theme for 2020 is

We learn to understand and appreciate what makes a great story and what others around us think and feel about the books they love.

Instead of individuals defending a title each week as the participants do through Canada Reads, at Esquimalt High School groups of students and classes choose books to promote from the long list. Participants will choose which book wins based on students’ campaigns and presentations. The pitches or presentations themselves will also be recognized.

Last year’s shortlist of popular and critically acclaimed books was chosen based on recommendations by students and research by Mr. Orme, Esquimalt High School’s teacher-librarian and the English Department.
